By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Bike Mayor of the City of??San Francisco, I do hereby issue this proclamation honoring

NATIONAL BICYCLE GREENWAY (NBG) DAY

???? ?? ??WHEREAS, the bicycle was the first personal??transportation??

???? ?? ??vehicle??and a century ago????was an important part of

???? ?? ??American??culture; and

??

???? ?? ?? WHEREAS, while the ______ member strong San Francisco

???? ?? ?? Bike??Coalition (SFBC)????has been busy weaving the bicycle back

???? ?? ?? into the????lives of San Franciscans; and

??

?? ?? ????WHEREAS, the SFBC has re-established ??the bicycle as

???? ?? ??an??important user of the??roads America’s love affair with

???? ?? ??the????automobile covered the city with; and

??

???? ??????WHEREAS, Awake Again” author and NBG Director, Martin??Krieg

???? ?? ??will be reminding??America what brought about the first road building

???? ?? ??in America when he pedals an 1891??backwards facing HiWheel

???? ?? ??bike to Boston in this year’s 8th National Mayors’ Ride; and

??

?? ?? ?? WHEREAS, in 1914, San Francisco?? became the end point for??the

???? ?? ??Lincoln??Highway,??the first coast-to-coast car highway, the??NBG

???? ?? ??seeks to begin the first coast-to-coast??bicycle highway in San

???? ?? ??Francisco??

NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE BIKE MAYOR OF San Francisco????do hereby proclaim May 15, 2010??as “NATIONAL BICYCLE GREENWAY DAY” in San Francisco????, CA
